Building software your team will actually use

By Site Admin

Most custom software fails quietly. People go back to WhatsApp and Excel. Here is how we try to avoid that.

The worst outcome for a custom software project is not a missed deadline. It is finishing on time and then watching the team quietly go back to their old spreadsheet because the new system is slower.

A few habits make a big difference.

Watch people work first

Before we design a single screen, we sit with the people who will use it. How do they take orders today? Where do they copy and paste? What do they do when the internet is slow? The answers rarely match what management thinks happens.

Ship something small, early

Instead of building everything at once, we pick the one task that wastes the most time and make that work first. The team starts using it in a few weeks, and their feedback shapes everything we build after.

Keep it boring

Good business software is not exciting. It is fast, obvious and hard to break. Big buttons, sensible defaults, fewer clicks. If someone needs training to find the save button, we have got it wrong.

Do this well and people stop asking for the old spreadsheet back. That is the real sign a project worked.
